What Happens When You Have a Sinus Infection?
For such a long time, I thought I had a cold. Whatever the school nurse told me, I believed in. In fact, I didn’t even tell my parents until sometime later. I could still remember how stuffy my nose was. If it wasn’t stuffy, it was draining.
A few years later, I started to doubt what the school nurse told me. “What is going on here? How could a cold actually last this long?” I finally got a different opinion from my junior high nurse. She diagnosed my symptoms as allergies.
My parents had no clue about allergy medicine. My mom bought some, but it wasn’t the non-drowsy kind for sure. I could still recall how drowsy I was during school time. My teacher set me aside one day and actually accused me of taking illegal drugs. That was all because of the drowsy antihistamine I was taking.
That was the start of my sinus infection problems. Here are 2 types of sinusitis (sinus infections). These 2 are called acute and chronic.
Here are the symptoms:
Symptoms of Acute Sinusitis
* Mucus drainage down the back of the throat
* Fever is common
* Facial pain or soreness
* Pressure around the sinus cavities
* Nasal discharge
* Vision problems
* Headaches
* Nasal congestion
* Pain behind the eyes
Chronic Sinus Infection Symptoms
* Bad breath
* Prolonged facial pain
* Chronic nasal discharge
* Pain below the eyes
* Prolonged headaches
* Pressure across or above your nasal passages
* Chronic sore throat
* Toothaches
When Will These Sinus Infection Symptoms Go Away?
As you can see, these symptoms have some similarities. The actual difference can be seen in the period of time for which symptoms will last. Acute sinus infections last for a month or two. As for chronic sinus infections, these typically last for a much longer period of time.
What Should I Use To Get Rid of Sinus Infections?
If your sinus infections aren’t severe, you can try over the counter medications to reduce some symptoms. You should see a doctor (naturopathic or not) for professional advice. Thinking in from your end, I’m sure you wouldn’t want to have any side effects.
